Andrea De Souza
Holistic Practitioner, Instructor, and Mentor….. Andrea wears many hats as a practitioner skilled in the arts of Massage, Yoga, and many other forms of natural healing therapies.
After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at The University of The West Indies (Barbados, 1997) she traveled to California where she spent 18 months training as a qualified practitioner of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. During this time at The National Holistic Institute (San Francisco Bay Area, USA, 1998-1999) she completed the 720 hour curriculum followed by six months (over 150 hrs) of the Graduate Teaching Assistant program. Andrea is Nationally Certified (since 1999) by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (USA) which is currently the highest recognized standard of certification in the USA. While in the USA, she also practiced Tai Chi, Meditation and Visualization techniques as well as participating in classes on Martial Arts, Yoga, Movement and Breath work.
After returning to Barbados in 2000, Andrea immediately set up her private practice in Massage Therapy (Body Therapeutics) offering a wide range of healing modalities to a diverse clientele. She continued her education in Spa therapies with ESPA (United Kingdom) at The Sandy Lane Spa (Barbados, 2001) as well as completing the Yoga Teaching Certificate (Yoga Alliance, USA) at The Caribbean Infinity Institute (Barbados, 2002). She has expanded her repertoire of services throughout the years to include energy and crystal work, as well as oracle readings and other forms of intuitive, spiritual healing.
She currently manages and operates her practice at Ajna Holistic Sanctuary, a community-based space for learning and healing. The Sanctuary also houses Sacred Paths, a metaphysical retail shop that sells local, artisan-made items. Her Bruja line of ritual tools and accessories are sold here exclusively.
In 2004, Peacehaven Holistic Therapy School Inc was established by Ann Lewis-Clarke and Andrea De Souza to offer International Diplomas in Complementary Therapies. The school is accredited by the International Examination Board (IEB) in the United Kingdom, and is registered with the Barbados Accreditation Council as a private, educational institution (formerly registered with the Ministry of Education). Peacehaven Holistic Therapy School Inc currently offers one year International Diploma courses in Anatomy & Physiology (Certificate), Aromatherapy, Massage Therapy, Reflexology, and Sports Therapy. The school also facilitates short, introductory workshops in these and other healing modalities.
Andrea also holds the title of President for the Association of Holistic Bodywork Practitioners from its inception in 2004 to date. The association’s mission focuses on upholding a high level of industry standard within the health and wellness sector. It is also a main stakeholder in the industry and works with other local organisations in the continuous development of the health and wellness sector in Barbados.
